Coming in 2011

movieScope presents the films and talent that’s sure to light up the screen in 2011. And there’s not a blockbuster among them. (OK, maybe just one…)

Talulah Riley

This 25-year-old British actress has been seen in films like St Trinian’s and The Boat That Rocked. Having taken a small role in Chris Nolan’s Inception, and starring opposite Robert Pattinson in The Summer House (which dominated the iTunes movie download chart), she will next be seen in Ron Howard’s The Dilemma.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Over three decades since its television adaptation, John Le Carre’s celebrated novel is being brought to cinemas by Swedish director Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In). Gary Oldman stars as veteran spy George Smiley, tasked with uncovering a Soviet agent within MI6; he is joined by a host of British talent including Tom Hardy and Colin Firth. UK Release: September 16

Andrea Riseborough

Recently named as one of the Shooting Stars to be honoured during the 2011 Berlin Film Festival, the 29-year-old actress has impressed in the likes of Made in Dagenham and Never Let Me Go. Upcoming films Brighton Rock and Madonna’s W.E., in which she plays Wallis Simpson, will cement her star status.

Seth Grahame-Smith

This talented young writer has written the screenplays for Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, now being made into films by high-profile directors Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov respectively.

2011 2The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

David Fincher translates Stieg Larsson’s best-seller into an English-language thriller, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. UK Release: December 26

Margaret

Held up since 2009, hopes are high that Kenneth Lonergan’s drama, which sees Anna Paquin and Matt Damon dealing with the aftermath of a fatal crash, will finally see the light of day in 2011
