Røde iXY wins major design award

Røde, the internationally renowned Australian microphone company was recently honoured with a Design Award from the highly regarded Australian International Design Awards, one of the oldest and most prestigious product design accolades, for its iXY stereo microphone. It received the award in its category of Consumer Electronics at the ceremony held at Circular Quay in Sydney, Australia.

The iXY is a high-quality stereo microphone designed for use with the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It incorporates an acoustically matched pair of 1/2″ condenser capsules, in a stacked X-Y configuration to provide immersive, true-to-life stereo recordings. Its on-board analogue-to-digital conversion bypasses the Apple device’s audio hardware, to provide incredibly high-quality audio recordings. Using the ‘RØDE Rec’ app, the iXY is capable of recording at 24-bit/96kHz resolution, which makes the iXY the highest quality microphone available for Apple’s iOS devices.

In March the iXY was recognised as a product of the very highest design quality by the prestigious international Red Dot awards. An expert panel of 37 judges from around the world, including fashion icon Jimmy Choo, assessed over 4,600 products from 54 different countries and identified the iXY as a creative, innovative and overall outstanding product.

Since its inception in 1955, the Red Dot awards have represented the highest standards of product design. It acknowledges the excellent ergonomics, functionality, longevity, formal quality, durability, aesthetics and innovation of a product.
