Spielberg Reveals War Horse Cast

After recently announcing that he is to direct his adaptation of the hit British play War Horse himself, Steven Spielberg has now revealed his main cast.

Young theatre star Jeremy Irvine, who has worked with the National Youth Theatre and the RSC, will make his film debut in the lead role of Albert, the Devon farmhand who attempts to find his beloved horse in the carnage of World War I. Emily Watson (Cold Souls) and Peter Mullan (Children of Men) has signed on to play his parents, while Benedict Cumberbatch (Four Lions) is to take the role of Major Stewart. David Thewlis (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and French star Niels Arestrup (A Prophet) have also confirmed their involvment.

War Horse begins shooting in the UK in the Autumn, and is scheduled for US release in August, 2011.
