Exiled Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf will receive funding from the Busan Film Festival
The exiled Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf is among thirty-one directors to receive funding from the Asian Cinema Fund, as part of the The Busan International Film Festival.
The Iranian director of Kandahar and reformist campaigner Mohsen Makhmalbaf – now based in Paris – will receive post-production support for his new project The Gardener.
Other notable projects are Ekachai Uekrongtham’s Bare, about the first nude photographer in Thailand, and Midi Z’s Lian-Qing, A Burmese Girl, about the life of a Burmese refugee in Thailand.
Eight projects will receive funding towards script-development while six will get post-production funding.
A further 17 titles will benefit from the Asian Network of Documentary Fund.
The 17th edition of the Busan Film Festival, which runs from October 4 to October 13, said the 31 projects were selected from 396 applications. A statement from the festival said: “They are fresh and innovative projects with a clear point of view.”
