The Bling Ring recreates the true story affluent friends who robbed the homes of the Hollywood wealthy, based on the Vanity Fair article The Suspects Wore Louboutins by Nancy Jo Sales. FilmNation handles the film’s international sales.
Coppola has cast British actress Emma Watson alongside newcomers Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Julien, and Taissa Farmiga. The film also features a cameo performance from Bling Ring victim Paris Hilton.
Roman Coppola – recently nominated for an Oscar for his work on Moonrise Kingdom – and Sofia Coppola shared writing duties, while Youree Henley produced.
The fledgling distributor, backed by Guggenheim funds, will release the film in June.
“Sofia Coppola is an iconic American filmmaker and she has focused her distinctive style and uncanny ability to capture the zeitgeist in The Bling Ring,” A24 said in a statement.
