The Changing Face of TV

I have a confession to make. To be frank, it’s less a confession, more of a deep-rooted fear. Now you may think that I’m being a bit histrionic and that I have nothing to worry about, and I hope to God you’re right, because if you’re not, well, in the words of Prince Humperdinck, I shall be very put out.

The thing is, I’m starting to think that TV is better than cinema…

Now, before you say, “I’m not sure I agree with you a hundred per cent on your police work, there, Adam,” hear me out. Just because François Truffaut called television a more mediocre version of cinema way back when doesn’t mean things haven’t changed. He also said that film lovers are sick people and to be honest I’ve been feeling a little parched ever since I saw ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS back in 1986.

My question to the readers of movieScope is this: has TV caught up with or indeed overtaken cinema in terms of its artistic and creative ambition?
