TULPAN takes Golden Peacock at IFFI in Goa

The 39th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) closed on December 2 in Goa with Sergei Dvortsevoy’s Kazakhstan film TULPAN picking up the top prize of best film.

The Golden Peacock award is accompanied by a cash prize of $80,000 (Rs4m). Dvortsevoy also took the Silver Peacock for Most Promising Director which came with a cash prize of $30,000 (Rs1.5m). The citation read: “TULPAN is a cinematic triumph that pulls us into a world where man can live in peace with nature”.

The $30,000 Special Jury Award went to Sri Lankan actress Malini Fonseka whose film Akasa Kusum featured in the competition section.

The five-member competition jury was headed by Hong Kong director Peter Chan. Other jury members were Venice director Marco Mueller, Iranian actress and filmmaker Niki Karimi, Filipino director Lav Diaz and Indian actress Tabassum Hashmi.
