Willem Dafoe is one of the most versatile actors in cinema history.

He’s been in studio pictures (MISSISSIPPI BURNING, SPIDER-MAN), foreign language contenders (LULU ON THE BRIDGE, PARIS, JE T’AIM), critically acclaimed indie films (AUTO FOCUS, MANDERLAY), cult items (eXistenZ, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, WILD AT HEART, THE HUNGER, THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU), duds (BODY OF EVIDENCE, xXx: STATE OF THE UNION), Best Picture winners (THE ENGLISH PATIENT).

He’s walked away with two Academy Awards® as Best Supporting Actor for his roles in PLATOON and SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE respectively.

2009 marks a year that sees him in four very different roles, made by four very different filmmakers. Dennis Lee’s FIREFLIES IN THE GARDEN is out in May, Lars von Trier’s ANTICHRIST premieres at Cannes, Werner Herzog’s MY SON, MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE debuts later in the year, and Theodoros Angelopoulos’ THE DUST OF TIME is set to unspool on the festival circuit.

Although he had to catch a cab to the airport, a laid back Dafoe set aside an hour to meet with movieScope Magazine’s Athos Kyrus at Charlotte Street Hotel in London this morning. “There are few things in life (certainly not a drab London morning!) that can prepare you for acting advice over breakfast at the Charlotte with Dafoe,” says Kyrus.

Don’t miss this in-depth, honest interview with Dafoe in the upcoming issue (out mid June) together with a truly fabulous line-up of features with:

Showrunner Sean Ryan (THE SHIELD)

Oscar®-winning Cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond (DELIVERANCE, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, THE DEER HUNTER)
