movieScope and Rushes Soho Shorts’ Orbital London Partner to Support Emerging Talent

UK Film magazine movieScope and Orbital London, the new competition from Rushes Soho Shorts Festival, have partnered to celebrate short film-making talent in the capital.

The collaboration sees the magazine team up with the competition – which launched for the first time this year – to give film-makers and audiences across London the chance to discover and enjoy films inspired by and made in the outer boroughs of the city.

movieScope is the UK’s only magazine dedicated to the craft of filmmaking and the broad spectrum of issues facing the industry at large. Launched in 2006, movieScope provides an insider’s point of view on all aspects of the filmmaking process, with contributions from filmmakers, commentators and leading industry figures.

Part of Rushes Soho Shorts Festival (RSFF), Orbital London is a film-making challenge which saw dozens of film-making teams hit the streets of the capital’s outer areas to create their own portrait of the city’s edges. The short films, each of which are three minutes in duration, demonstrate that creativity knows no physical boundaries, and great stories can be told anywhere.

The submitted films will be screened at a special event on July 21, during the Festival, where four overall winners will be announced. In addition to prizes from Adobe and StarNow, the four lucky film-makers will receive a complimentary annual subscription to movieScope. The finalists will be edited together into a 12-minute film, which will be premiered online and offline at a special event later in the year.

The new partnership sees movieScope supporting emerging film-making talent in the capital through its online channels – www.moviescopemag.com, its Twitter feed (@movieScope) and Facebook page – with complimentary subscriptions and by collaborating on Orbital events.

Joe Bateman, director of the Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival commented: ‘We are delighted to have the support of a media outlet like movieScope, which has gone from strength to strength since it first appeared and which has shown a continued commitment towards film-makers. We look forward to working with them in Orbital London and explore further collaborations with the festival.’

Nikki Baughan, editor of movieScope said: “As a magazine, we are totally dedicated to supporting grass roots British filmmaking, as this is the life-blood of the industry. We are, therefore, thrilled to be collaborating with Orbital London in this exciting challenge which champions new filmmaking talent.”

Orbital London (www.orbitallondon.com) is supported by Nokia, Fujifilm, Create11 Festival, London Short Film Festival, Audio Network, StarNow, The Smalls, Kino London, Rotoreliefs and movieScope magazine. Rushes Soho Shorts Festival takes place 20-29 July 2011 in venues across the city.
