Sam Raimi, the director behind the Evil Dead and Spider-Man trilogies, will produce the feature film adaptation alongside producing-partner Rob Tapert, who brought The Possession to the screen. Joe Drake – the man behind the Hunger Games – will executive produce.
Initially self-published, Angelfall is Susan Ee’s debut novel. The lawyer turned writer subsequently signed a publishing deal for the fantasy novel, which was released in the fall of 2011 through Amazon Children’s Publishing, quickly becoming number one best seller in the Sci-fi and Fantasy category. The second book in the series will release in the spring of 2013.
Angelfall is set amidst a human apocalypse after Archangel Gabriel is killed. The main character – 17-year-old Penryn – uses the help of a young angel with clipped wings, braving human gangs and cannibals in a quest to find her lost sister.
Sam Raimi said: “Susan is a brilliant writer. She has created a fantastic world with instantly engaging and real characters. I immediately connected with the material and knew that she had conceived the perfect combination for a great fantasy film.”
