Spain Gives Saw VI an X-Rating

Saw VI, the latest film in the torture porn franchise, has hit a snag in Spain – the Spanish Culture Ministry’s Film Institute has slapped it with an X-rating due to its extreme violence. This means that instead of going on wide release with 300 copies, the film can only play in the 8 cinemas allowed to show X-rated movies. Saw VI is the first non-pornographic film to receive the rating in Spain.
Buena Vista, who were expecting the movie to receive an 18 certificate like all previous Saw movies, are to appeal the decision. It is unlikely, however, that anything will be resolved over this opening weekend.
