– . – UK filmmakers absent from Cannes 2011 Short Film Competition Lineup

portrait jpeg 20x15The Festival de Cannes’ commitment to showcase the works of young, emerging talent is well know – and for good reason. Their Short Film Competition has in the past unearthed of some exceptional talent, many whom have gone on to achieve international fame as feature directors. Jane Campion, Xavier Giannoli, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Catalin Mitulescu and Lynne Ramsay… all of whom are also in the 2011 Official Selection lineup.

This year’s Short Film Competition features nine films from nine different countries, offering emerging filmmakers from South Korea, Belgium, Norway, Canada, Japan, France/Ukraine, Argentina/ Colombia, New Zealand and Australia their opportunity to shine.

Conspicuous by their absence however, are any filmmakers from the UK…

Vladimir Durán – SOY TAN FELIZ (Argentina/Colombia, 14’)

Lisa Marie Gamlem – KJØTTSÅR (Norway, 11’)
Sam Holst – MEATHEAD (New Zealand, 10’)
Nicolas Roy – CE N’EST RIEN (Canada, 14’)
Megumi Tazaki – PATERNAL WOMB (Japan, 15’)
Maryna Vroda – CROSS (France/Ukraine, 14’)

The 2011 jury is presided over by Michel Gondry, with the Short Film Palme d’Or to be awarded at the closing ceremony on 22nd May.
