UPIE picks up Elijah Wood’s Cooties from Synchronicity – movieScope

AFM 2013: Universal Pictures International Entertainment has taken UK, Germany, Benelux and Brazil rights to from Synchronicity Entertainment to Elijah Wood horror comedy, Cooties.



Alison Pill and Rainn Wilson co-star alongside Wood in a story about a substitute teacher who battles child cannibals at an isolated elementary school.

Cooties is directed by Cary Munion and Jonathan Milott, and produced by SpectreVision partners Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller as well as Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity 1-4, Insidious) , and Glacier Films’ Tove Christensen and Georgy Malkov.

Leigh Whannell (Saw 1-3, Insidious) and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan penned the screenplay and also serve as executive producers.

Synchronicity’s President, Ruzanna Kegeyan negotiated the deal with Matthew Dysart from Sheppard Mullin on behalf of the producers and Jasper van Hecke and Felicity Harrison on behalf of UPIE.

“UPIE’s enthusiasm for the release in such key international territories as the UK and Germany promises that Cooties has found the perfect home where it can grow globally,”

Synchronicity Entertainment (“Synchronicity”) is a partnership between The Solution and Siren Studios. Synchronicity aims to finance and produce 8 – 10 film titles per year centered around the horror, action, thriller and comedy film genres. The slate will be a combination of third party titles, co-productions and in house productions utilizing the Siren Studios production and post-production facilities.
