Artificial Eye grabs The Selfish Giant – movieScope

The Selfish Giant by Clio Barnard

Artificial Eye picked up the UK rights to Clio Barnard’s The Selfish Giant ahead of its first screening at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, according to Screen Daily. The film is already garnering rave reviews, with many calling it the best film at the festival.

The follow up to her award-winning debut The Arbor, which blurred the boundaries between documentary and narrative filmmaking, The Selfish Giant is inspired by the Oscar Wilde story of the same name. Featuring first-time actors Conner Chapman and Shaun Thomas, it tells of two teenage boys caught up in the world of copper theft. It was shot in Bradford and backed by the BFI Film Fund and Film4.

Artificial Eye is part of Curzon Film World. UK release is set for November 15, 2013.
