Aubin Cinema to host ‘edible’ screening of Miyazaki’s Spirited Away – |

Taking place on 25 and 26, August 2012 at 64 Redchurch Street, E2, Edible Cinema is a collaboration between the Soho House Group, experimental food designer Andrew Stellitano and Bombay Sapphire mixologist Sam Carter.

The audience will be provided with a series of numbered packages before the start of the film which contain various types of food.

At specific moments during the film, large placards with corresponding numbers will be shown to the audience inviting them to consume the contents of the packages. Guests will also be served a Sapphire Rosato cocktail during the film.

The screening is the follow-up to the successful ‘scratch and sniff’ screening of  Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth at the Electric Cinema in May, which featured the film’s score re-imagined by DJs and musicians.

Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away is considered one of the greatest animated films of all-time, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards 2002 and the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival.

The film follows Chihiro, a ten year old girl on a quest to rescue her parents from a fantasy world filled with talking animals, witches and spirits.

Edible experiences during the film will include eating foaming tapioca soap powder as Chihiro bathes a filthy river spirit at the bathhouse and Bombay Tears, a lightly salted mini Bombay Sapphire cocktail to drink as Chihiro cries as she eats her first meal as a servant girl.

Edible Cinema will take place on Saturday 25 August at 4.00pm and Sunday 26 August at 9.00pm at The Aubin Cinema, 64-66 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DP.
