Red Bull’s TERRA MATER FACTUAL STUDIOS launches theatrical label, CINEMATER – movieScope

CineMater will create content for international cinema audiences across a diverse range of genres with all of its storytelling will be rooted in fact. Its first projects will be an explosive quantum theory thriller, DXM with Andrew Goth (EVERYBODY LOVES SUNSHINE, GALLOWWALKERS) attached to direct, and the previously announced THE WAY OF THE EAGLE, starring Jean Reno.

CineMater’s product will be divided under three brands: Terra Magna, Wild Drama and Real Fear. Terra Magna will produce documentaries for the big screen; Wild Drama focuses on movies where nature takes a key role; whilst Real Fear will concentrate on films inspired by real events, with no fear of provoking controversy.

Walter Koehler, CEO CineMater and Terra Mater Factual Studios commented: “We’re thrilled to see CineMater evolve out of our documentary success. We have a number of exciting titles in the works and are confident that within our three brands: Terra Magna, Wild Drama and Real Fear, we are creating films that will appeal to a large demographic worldwide.”

DXM is a high-octane contemporary thriller that explores the real world possibilities of quantum mechanics. The film is currently in pre-production and aims to break new, young talent in front of camera. Casting Director, Reg Poerscout-Edgerton said “It is great to be working with a production company that has a philosophy of finding and showcasing fresh talent. With the backing and support of CineMater, this project will take them on a highly creative journey.” The film follows a group of young bio-engineers who realise that quantum theory can be used to transfer motor-skills from one brain to another. They freely spread this technology believing it to be a first step towards intellectual equality. However, as the mysterious past of one of their group is revealed, dark forces emerge that threaten to subvert this technology into a means of mass control.

Joanne Reay, Co-writer and Producer said, “DXM is a fast, contemporary and energetic film which explores the endless potential of the quantum world and will take the audience on a gripping journey into new worlds and dimensions. Combining scientific theory with human drama makes for a bold story which truly reflects CineMater’s aims of explorative and revelatory truth-telling.”

THE WAY OF THE EAGLE, announced by Terra Mater Factual Studios at this year’s Berlinale, is now also in production under CineMater. This visually-compelling exploration of human and animal relationships will be directed by Gerardo Olivares and stars the award-winning actor Jean Reno (THE DA VINCI CODE, LÉON: THE PROFESSIONAL).
